Idealism

I used to have big hopes for this country.

As a neophyte who took up political science, I used to join debates, rallies, fought for the student’s rights against unconscionable tuition hikes and other activities which I understood that time as a fight for justice.

That was more or less ten years ago…and that hope is growing dimmer.

The bright light that once shone brightly within me is slowly dying. Everyday when I cover news where corruption gnaw away the remaining pride and honor this country has, I get disheartened.

I took up law hoping that as a lawyer I would be able to help those who cannot defend themselves. Yet, it is not in this profession that I saw the real picture.

The world of journalism opened my eyes to the harsh realities of life.

My lawyer friends would often text me stating that they are getting tired of the system and would gladly give up the legal profession in pursuit of greener pastures.

Honestly, I fear what the future has to offer for my child and children if God wills it. I am hesitant as to what awaits the next generation.

The epidemic of corruption and power struggle in this country is getting worst. It is draining the resources and opportunities this country rightfully deserves.

HELL, WE SHOULD BE A POWERFUL NATION IF NOT FOR THESE CORRUPTION GOING ON IN OUR COUNTRY!

If this were so, we no longer have to go abroad to feed our families, sacrificing quality time that families should spend with one another.

There will be lots of jobs available for all Filipinos.

We would have the best facilities, infrastructures, and resources to cater to public service.

Our children will be attending the best schools and have the best quality education we can give them.

Yet, I am only living in a dream. Am I?

WALA NA BA TALAGANG PAG-ASA?
